Chandpura The police have arrested an imam in a case of rape of a schoolgirl.
On Monday afternoon, the accused Mozammel Haque was produced in Chandpur court and his bail application was rejected and he was sent to jail, sources confirmed that the former imam of Mozammel of Sadar Upazila, Mozammel, was on the run for five months after raping the girl on November 17.
Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain Roni said, 'Mozammel has betrayed the faith of an eight-year-old schoolgirl and her family by promising to teach English to the girl.
"On November 17, he brought the girl to a flat and raped her. After five months, the girl's mother identified Mozammel from a market and handed her over to the police with the help of locals.
OC Alamgir said that the police found an inappropriate picture of Mozammel's rape on the phone.
