The Imam of the mosque has been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for raping a minor in Fatulla.
The elite forces also picked up five of its followers who tried to cover up the incident and threatened the victim's family with dire consequences.
The arrested are Imam Md. Fazlur Rahman alias Rafiqul Islam (45) of a mosque in Chanmari, North Chashara, Fatulla and his followers Md. Ramzan Ali, Md Ghiyas Uddin, Habib-e-Elahi alias Habi, Md. Motahar Hossain and Md. Sharif.
The Rab-11 was arrested on Tuesday after the victim's father filed a complaint against Imam.
The victim's family said they had taken the girl to the imam after the Fajr prayer on August 2 because she had bad dreams while sleeping. After sending the father out to light the candle, the imam raped the girl on the pretext of chasing her.
He also threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about the incident.
But the child reported the incident to his parents.
